SharePoint 2010 information

This is just a small roundup of the information provided by our friend steve:

  • Public beta of workspace, office and SharePoint 2010 will be available in november. No date specified
  • SharePoint 2010 will ship in Q1 or Q2 of 2010
  • SharePoint 2010 runs on vista and windows 7 for developers
  • visual interface for creating webparts
  • greatly simplified deployment from VS2010
  • pump log info into a database into a file
  • SharePoint Online is SharePoint in the cloud
  • 2 way communication with the new BDC
  • SMS service can be setup for alerts, invites and notifications
  • sp2010 sites will be WCAG compliant and xhtml
  • end users can copy content from word to SP2010 without losing markup
  • built-in broken link checker and spell checker for end users
  • WSS is now called SharePoint Foundation 2010
  • a Lot of new licensing options
  • reporting services are now built-in

  • communities rock! social networking better implemented: LinkedIn/Facebook like "what am I doing" is just a small example!
  • Central options to manage tagging, metadata. Even metadata navigation!
  • Taxonomy management will be way better
  • Did I already that the NDA has officially been lifted? ;)

  • Out of the box item and document rating
  • In-browser viewing of all Office-content types

  • Controlling large list activities: (from documentation)
    • default no of items returned for a user query is 5000
    • warning for site admins that they are close to a threshold limit (default 3000)
    • the amount of query results for a site admin is 20.000.
    • maximum number of unique scopes in a list: default is 5000
    • default of max 6 lookup columns in a list
