Programming on a 20 inch Widescreen:)

After a delay of 2 weeks. Dell finally delivered my 2005FPW 20 inch widescreen:)  When I turned the screen on it really gave me a *wow* feeling.

Compared to my 17 inch CRT this is like a huge monster. This is definitely a must have for every developer. Look at the screenshots I made in Visual Studio and outlook 2003. It looks pretty amazing don't you think?

This screen can produce a resolution of 1680x1050 (16:10)  with a response time of 16ms. Gaming in Half Life 2 will never be the same:)

I recommend everyone to buy a 20 inch widescreen! Click here for detailed information.

Pfew.....

If 16 MS response time is enough i wonder how slow your PC is....

In really fast games i think 12 MS is too slow sometimes..... so i guess 16 MS would be too slow....

For a casual gamer like me 16 ms is more than enough. I have an AMD 2600+ XP with a Radeon 9700. It's not a super pc but it's ok. Hmm I wonder what kind of pc you have.. a AMD 4000+ ?

Met 16ms kun je dik 60FPS halen. Ik weet niet wat zijn bak haalt met die hardware, 60fps is echt wel héél goed te doen. Als je dat hebt, zou ik de details maar 's omhoog gaan schroeven.

16ms isn't the time for a full bright white to full black screen. This will probably be 50% higher. So this screen cannot be used for optimal videogame presentation.

It's like the old discussion Dennis, Elias and I had when Elias and I were used to 50fps rates on our Amiga. Playing a fullscreen game then on a PC really didn't run that smooth. Dennis always said we shouldn't complain that much because he considered a game as smooth when it ran about 15fps (back then that is..)

I still rather run at 800x600 @ 60FPS then at 1280x1024 with a framerate that drops below 60FPS all the time when the graphic card has to do too much work.

Wow! Looks expensive.

My preference is actually more monitors, because you can have more windows "maximised", and with a utility like UltraMon, it makes managing multi-monitors and apps a breeze.

Dell had a wonderfull discount of 25%. It cost me 540 euro and the lcd panel is exactly the same as the Apple 20 inch Cinema Display.
See: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?family=AppleDisplays

Compared to the apple display (800 euro) this is a very nice offer.

Yeah two monitors are also great. What about a setup of two 20 inch displays?:)
