IE7 VS Firefox 2.0

VS

When I first installed Firefox 1.0 I became a firefox junky. The days after I installed and used most of the popular extensions. I could not get enough of it. The ability to customize your browser the way you like was totally new.

Ok so what about the new Internet Explorer 7.0? Can it compete to Firefox 2.0? Let's have some look.

IE7 Tabs (-)

In IE6 I had to use the Microsoft Desktop Search to enable tabs on IE6. IE 6 with tabs still didn't feel right. But now we have IE7 with tabs and it works very natural.  But wait. Like every Dutchman I have to complain:). I dislike the way closing tabs. To close a tab you can click on the cross at the right hand side of the selected tab. But if you want to close the tab next to it.  You cannot directly click on the cross of the tab because it isn't there. To close the tab you will have to click on the tab first and then the cross appears.

Firefox 2.0 Tabs (+)

The Firefox version have been slightly improved. They added a closing button on every tab. That's more like it! To bad they didn't add a progressbar on the top of the tab, like in tab mix plus.

IE7 RSS (+)

IE7 has the ability to detect Rss feeds and has sorting and filtering options.

Firefox 2.0 RSS (-)

The firefox version doesn't have the filtering and scoring options.

Firefox Specials

  • Skins are easy to install by using the add-on dialog.
  • Web pages loads faster than before.
  • Phishing Protection

  • Spell checks is a very cool feature. Right-click on the input field and select spell check this field. From now on you'll have realtime spell checking:) Other dictionaries can be added by selecting languages, add dictionaries by using the shortcut menu.
  • Search suggestions. See screenshot below.

 IE7 Specials

  • Tab preview is very nice feature.
  • Phishing filter
  • Clear Type is turned on by default (I have this feature turned off)
  • Print preview improved a lot! Click on the second image below for a nice preview. It's possible to view one or more pages side by side. I could not find this option in Firefox.
  • The add-on feature hasn't changed much. It still cannot compete to Firefox extensions.

in IE7, to close the tab you dont need to first click on the tab and then click on close, instead you can directly perform middle click function of your mouse and it will close the tab
