Quest comparision suite

Just one of those great tools every develop should know about...

Last week I had to release a new version of an application. The database had changed quite a bit, so I looked around for a tool to script the changes.

In the old days (at LogicaCMG) we used SQL Compare by Redgate. But I took a look at Quest and found that their Comparison Suite is ideal for this kind of task. It can even compare the data in the database or the settings of the database itself...!

I've tried it and it works very well. Good and intuitive UI and nicely generated scripts you can use for your releases. And best of all: free. Have a look at it, you'll like it.

Looks pretty slick. But personally, I prefer the interface used by Red-gates SQL compare. The current versions is a little more intuitive. But hey, this one's free ware until september 2007 ;-) So who's complaining. It works great too!!!

Don't forget about VS2005 for Database dudes.

And Quest can't stand in the shadow of Red-Gate's tools. :)

About Red Gate: you might be right, but there's also a little matter of 295 dollars for Red Gate's SQL compare...

And did I mention Quest also does data compare? You've got to pay extra for that at Red Gate as well...

If your company thinks 295 dollars is too much, than I'd quit immediatly. I've done that before! ;)
