TechEd New Zealand - part II

Today was already the last day for the TechEd. I took the opportunity to get to know a bit more on Silverlight and SharePoint, I attended a session on "Oslo" and tried to expand my mobility development knowledge but Mobility not being a track at the NZ TechEd should have been an indicator.

What puzzled me most today was the session on "Oslo", the presentation was fine but I just couldn't see what Microsoft was trying to achieve with this "M" language... and "M" usually knows very well what she's doing... Maybe I should reserve judgement and first investigate this one further, maybe I just misunderstood.

Tomorrow I'm of to Wellington and then some other priorities will take over... getting laptop... getting house... getting job... I guess in that order as well :-)

TechEd New Zealand

The second day already and packed with sessions again. It seems that there's not that much really new coming up, but it's been very usefull catching up again. What were the highlights up until now?

The parallel additions in .NET 4.0. Whether you like it or not you'll need them to leverage the power in todays multi core machines. It will probably bring a challenge to analysis and design to include this parallel thinking here as well.

And it's not new as the launch is expected in November, but if you're lagging behind at the moment like I am, you certainly have to make time for it now; the Azure platform. I did make a mental note to have a closer look at the security aspects and the impact on the development lifecycle, so I might get back on that later.

Still one more day to go...

Code Camp Auckland

Today I attended Code Camp Auckland, an event organised by the dotNet user group in New Zealand. For those of you who actually know me might be wondering "What's she doing there?". Well I actually moved to New Zealand this week to go live in Wellington. But when TechEd New Zealand is in the same month you plan to move, you might as well treat yourself and attend, so that's why I'm here. Code Camp was a bonus, a free day with sessions in three tracks with lots of enthousiasts, and all that on a Sunday. I took the opportunity to brush up my knowledge on secure programming and sql indexing.

And tomorrow there is more to come on TechEd.
