I have 11.0 version. This procedure doesn't work. I went step by step, if you click "x" when you are done. The program disappears. When you open it up again the registration box reappears. It disappears every time you click "x" or "cancel".

I can get as far as 12.0. Do all machines have a registration folder?

This totally works if you only and only if you have 12.0, I just removed 11 and downloaded Professional 12.0 Microsoft Office 2007 and it works.

P.S. I have the trial version on my laptop. I just never turn it off and leave Word open all the time. That way you don't have to open it over again and it won't ever ask for a product key. (This works for people who really only use Word or just one of the Microsoft Office programs because it could get annoying if you have a bunch of things open. Also, this only works if you don't mind leaving your laptop/computer on all the time.) Hope this info is helpful.

I was thankful to find this explanation of how to change the Product Key. I had been using a Beta B2T copy of Office 2007 and when the Beta ran out without me being prepared I was able to use the above mentioned way to reinstall Office 2007 on a 60 day trial period by just downloading and installing the trial version over my existing Beta and using your method to change my key.

For some reason when I tried to uninstall the Beta and just install the trial it would not work.

The purpose of deleting the ProductID and DigitalProductID entries isn't to give you the full version of the product, but to give you access to whatever trial version you have (If your trial doesnt already have access to all the features you want, I would download a full trial which gives full product access for a limited time). What you need to do is first download the full trial version then follow the instructions at the top. When you run the program it should still ask you for the product key, but just close the activation window and you should be able to use the program for as long as you want. Now, if you just have a full version of the software and you're needing a product code to activate it, you may be out of luck, because the software won't accept product keys that have not been activated by microsoft.

Why the hell I see so many request pouring in for product key/ validation key......once installed just delete the product id/ digital id (as mentioned thousand times on this page) and you should be good to go!

I have got Office 2007 Professional / Visio 2007 working fine for me on WinXP. Once deleted these two keys....it simply WORKS!

I had a pre-installed Office Student and Home edition trial on my new Vista laptop.  I activated the 60 day version already and the instructions above about deleting the id's works as far as I can tell.  Come May 31, I will know for sure!  It is a bit annoying to always have to close the pop-up key window everytime but I'm not complaining.  I am wondering how one specifically opts out of the office updates?  Do I need to deselect a box somewhere- I don't want it updating and undoing my current license!

I've followed the above instructions and at the beginning i had installed the trial version and then I uninstalled the office and reinstalled again.When the installation setup prompted to enter the trial serial,i skipped this progress.Finally, I got to use office standard 2007 in trial version which is all functioning. First of all make sure that u install Office 2007 without any Serial Number... If u have already installed it with a serial number then follow these instructions.....

1. Close all Microsoft Office applications.

2. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.

3. Locate the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Registration

Note You may also find another subkey that resembles the following subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Registration\{91120000-0011-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}

If you have office 2007, just do what they are telling you to do which is really easy and you will have your office 2007 forever. No more product key is required. I mean it will still ask you to enter the Product key every time you will open office, but just cancel it (ignore it) by pressing the X(close) button and you will be able to use the office 2007.

I have just used V9MTG-3GX8P-D3Y4R-68BQ8-4Q8VD, then a ID code came up. Select confirmation by telephone (uk) and you are given an 0800 number to ring. I entered the 9 x 6 digit numbers but they we not recognised and I was immediatly put through to an "agent". You must say that your programme copy was pre-installed on your computer and NOT one you have just purchased. After giving the 1st six digits you are given a computer generated activation code.

Easy as that and NO need to mess around with the registry. GOOD LUCK

I downloaded a trail version from MS. They gav me a trail code to type in. I did that....

I did, what the main topic on this site told me to do, like open the regiedit, and delete the prduct ID, and the digital ID.

So far its ok. Then when i start world pro 2007 or any other office program 07, it says, i cant activate it, i acn only convert it. So, i entered the traial  code that MS gae me, and at another time i enterd a product key that i found on the net (dailykes.com).

It works, fine, it installs the product nicely, until i close word and open it again, it asks me to the same thing..

The only solution for me is to reboot my whole windows, and start it all ovr again. Unless there is an easier solution.

Can someone offer advice, I deleted the ProductID and DigitalID and it worked perfectly on my Home and Student Office.

For reasons I can't work out it has stopped working, I have not downloaded updates, I have checked the registry and there are no ProductID/DigitalID files which have returned to delete.  I have tried altering proof.xml file with no success.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

What i have done, was 1. install it, then by my mistake i unistalled it. I cannot continue with the 60 day trial, and can only open it 20 times before it locks.

I, cannot put the trial code that MS gave, because it says that the trial version is no longer valid, (as i unsistalled it).

THIS WORKS!!!  I am a computer novice and I figured this out, no need for keys or ID's or confirmation codes, don't call any one.  Just download the full trial version from Microsoft's website and follow the directions below.  If you can't figure it out from the simple directions, step by step, then you are an idoit!

There is no countdown to how many times you have left to open and no annoying windows to close everytime you open the program, it just opens and works like you bought it!

1. Close all Microsoft Office applications.

2. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.

3. Locate the following registry subkey:

On my laptop MS office Prof 2007 was preinstalled. Everytime I start any office program it asks for a productkey.

I've followed all instructions re: ProductId and Digital etc. in the registry but there are no such entries. The entries i found are like:

convert to edition: Ms office Prof 2007.

Product name: 2007 MS office system.

Ok, now if I try to edit the file named Proof.XML, to change "alwaysinstalled" to "neverinstalled" it wouldn't let me save the edited file.

Error message:

Cannot create the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE12\Office Setup Controller\Proof.en\Proof.xml file.

Make sure that the path and filename are correct.

The file is their but I can't edit the file. It does allow to save the file as a .txt.

Is it some kind of security issue?? However I am logged on as an Administrator running on a Windows Vista Business

i saved the notepad/xml file i edited with the neverinstalled replacing alwaysinstalled. and since it would not allow me to save it saying the path didn't exist i saved it on my desktop and replaced the files afterwards .. ofcourse it prompts you if you want to change it and such.. but following that i went ahead with it and reopened word ...and whadduyaknow it works..well atleast it doesn't ask for comfirmation activation.

I followed the regedit instructions and it worked great until today.  It just stopped working.  I tried to install the PDF add in and it wanted to validate, of course it couldnt. Was that maybe the reason I got closed out.  and how can I now get back up and running.

THIS WORKS!!!  I am a computer novice and I figured this out, no need for keys or ID's or confirmation codes, don't call any one.  Just download the full trial version from Microsoft's website and follow the directions below.  If you can't figure it out from the simple directions, step by step, then you are an idoit!

There is no countdown to how many times you have left to open and no annoying windows to close everytime you open the program, it just opens and works like you bought it!

1. Close all Microsoft Office applications.

2. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.

This is simple too.

1. Go to My Computer

2. Copy and paste this "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE12\Office Setup Controller\Proof.en" to directly navigate to Proof.XML.

3. You should now see a file named Proof.XML

4. Right click on the file and select open with notepad.

5. After opening the file with notepad scroll down to the the bottom.

You DA Man. It worked like a charm. I didn't even have to enter the product key and activate over internet anymore after I deleted the Registry Keys and changed the XML file.

In fact, I got the setup from in my MSDN CDs for which my company is paying lot of money to Microsoft, it's not that I am trying to pirate. but, the problem is none of the keys I have is already used for maximum # of times. my IT is still figuring out which is working key.

hey Zak, what do i do if windows visa won't allow for the file proof.xml to be edited? i tried editing it but when i modified the OptionRefId value, it won't save the file.

At first I tried the "Proof" route and that got me absolutely NOWHERE. After going through countless p. keys that had been posted I found one that worked! Word prompted me for an activation key (35 characters) and I decided to call Microsoft (since the prompt included the installation key).

Its an automated call and once entering my installation key, I was give the activation key. Everything works!!!!!!!!!! =)

I changed "AlwaysInstalled" to "NeverInstalled" and when I open 2007 Word, it doesn't prompt me to enter the 25 product key anymore but I can't do anything with Word. The error message is "This modification is not allowed because the selection is locked".

The best way to get around constantly using a trial version...is to keep getting trial version codes through microsoft themselves...

You can only get a 60 day trial...but yanno...YAHOO is free!!! you can have 1000 email accounts with them!!!  THEREFOR..........you can get as many codes as you NEED...just do what you gotta do to get em!!!
