I installed Beta2TR above Beta2.

After installing Office 2003 Proofing Tools, I launched Word 2007. Office Configuration window was shown and it began updating config. There error appeared. There's a screenshot:

Now I even uninstalled all the Office 2003 components, but it still wants to configure itself and the error is caused! So I have to download Office and setup Beta2 and TR again... What's the MUI version? The default language of my Office 2007 is English, of Windows XP is Russian.

On this url there is an modified PTK.MSI, altering with original in proofing tool's CD you can by-pass the version check of installer.

In case that no succees due to failure to locate the language files, just acomplish the procedure and repeat with the original PTK.MSI..

We can't forget to emphasize that the SQL Server 2005 has to be set up to using both TCP/IP and named pipes for local and remote connections. Otherwise, the step 6 won’t work at all.

First, if you've got a task and must perform the task in 16 hours, how do you explain 6 interuptions of 30 minutes each, resulting in 3 hours extension to the task? Are you going to report you've worked 19 hours on it?

Probably not. You're still writing 16 hours, it's just your personal problem that you've got 3 hours less to work on the task. Or you just juggle a bit with the hours and write an extra hour or 2 on meetings or anything.

So, with WSS 2.0 I can get FQDN working by just setting the host header, but I can't get FQDN working with SSL (it always defaults to NetBIOS name).  Any thoughts on how to do both?

Oh, and the fix for WSS 3.0 worked swimmingly!

I installed sqlserver 2005 and one instance of reporting services. it is working fine.

so i went ahead and installed a second instance of reporting services on the same machine.

The following steps were taken in order to add the second instance of reporting services.

1- Installed the second instance of reporting services with option to not configure Reporting Services checked. (successful )

2- Created extra IP address on the server (successful)

3- Used IIS to create an additional website and selected the IP address (successful), added hostname header.

4- Configured the Reporting Services using Reporting Services Configuration (created virtual directory for report manager and report server).

5-    Modified the RSReportServer.config file.  

            old value:   <UrlRoot>http://<servername>/reportserver</UrlRoot>

            new value: <UrlRoot>http://<IPaddress>/reportserver</UrlRoot>

6-     Modified the RSWebApplication.config file

            old value: <ReportServerUrl></ReportServerUrl>

            <ReportServerVirtualDirectory>ReportServer</ReportServerVirtualDirectory>

new value:             <ReportServerUrl>http://<IPaddress>/reportserver</ReportServerUrl>

I'm also getting error message "The report server has encountered a configuration error. See the report server log files for more information. (rsServerConfigurationError)

I followed you instructions carefully and had pretty good success with the install. I only ran into 2 issues.

1. I couldn't create a new project with my domain account because i didn't have the permissions in

SharePoint. The account I used to install team server works fine and has no problems creating a new team project.

2. When I viewed the project in team explorer from my local machine logged in under my domain account, I get a red x on only the documents folder.

It turned out that tfs didn't add me to the admin role on the root team portal site

http://{myserver}/default.aspx site.

I will be running a test tomorrow to see if this occured because my domain account was already setup before the WSS 3.0 upgrade. My premis is that if I add a new user to the licensed user & tfs administrator roles that it will automaticly setup the sharePoint role as well, but if it doesn't this may be a warning that you might want to post, about having to manually configure security in multiple places.

the second problem, with the documents folder, turned out to be a problem with permissions on the child sharePoint site for that project.

Just figured if it happened to me it's bound to happen to someone else. Hope this information is of use to you.

After reading your instructions proofing is working perfectly in Brazilian Portuguese.

I've used the Office 2003 Portuguese CD to install just the proof and language. Started Word and it installed the Thesaurus as if it was Office 2007 native.

First, thanks for your excellent posts on getting WSS 3 to work with TFS.  I'm in the misdt of rebuiding my app tier (very weird kerberos issues before), but when I'm done, I'm considering following your steps.

I wanted to know what you think though about copying the TFS virtual directories/apps to the sharepoint site (and adding the appropriate path exclusions) as to allow all day-to-day activities to be on a single port.

The reason is that it's easier to allow a single SSL port open than two and credentials will be reused since it's the same site...the user will only need to enter credentials once.

I have to say that the worst part of getting the app tier before setup was sharepoint.  I wanted to use a regular DNS name for all TFS access to allow seamless external access, and it was very painful to get set up.  The main issues I think were that Sharepoint recognized the default site as http://computer/ instead of the desired access point of https://tfs.blah.com.  When the PCW went to create subsites, it failed since it couldn't find an instance of the tfs.blah.com site on sharepoint.  I eventually solved it by unextending the site, adding a host-header so that the admin service would see the name and reextending.

Maybe another good blog topic would be to detail all of the steps necessary to set the name of a TFS server to be a dns hostname and having it locked down using only SSL.  There are a number of places settings need to be changes, rangning from various config files, the tfsadminutil, the registry and sharepoint.  In the end, it's painful but worth it.  Now it's just a port issue as ISA Server doesn't make it possible to have mutliple SSL ports on a single listener.  With an ISA Web listener, a user can authenticate against it and Kerberos Constrained Delegation can auth the user to the TFS.  Another thing that's nifty is that ISA can use Forms-Based auth with Basic fallback for non-browser clients (over SSL obviously).  That way, an external user can have a friendly login for sharepoint but still use the web services easily.

Is it possible to have 2 user interfaces with Office 2007? Not just the proofing tools, but also the visual aspect in a different language.

We attended a Mircosoft Launch Event recently, and one of the copies of the office we ackquired was installed in spanish. I don't want to replace this language, but I wonder if it is possible to install an English UI to be able to change the UI when an English speaking person uses the pc.

If so, how do I go about doing this?

Purchase language pack? Where?

Special installations? How?

Switch back and forth? Again, how?

I believe I have seen that the SLP (single language pack) are priced at $24.95, but I do not know where. Searched, but could not find this.

Hi I've downloaded the 40 templates for Windows Sahrepount Services 3.0 but when I want to Install them I kind of get lost :P the problem I have is with the step: "Pull the solution file, ApplicationTemplateCore.wsp, from the extracted distribution. This solution file will be added to the solution store, a table in the Windows SharePoint Services configuration store that holds solution files." Im using TFS and eed to upgrade Sharepoint Services so that it is compatible with MS ProjectServer 2007 (2003 not supported now). The whole point of this is the pipelining of work items and timesheet items back into the project plan.

ProjectServer 2003 insists on SQL2000 (OLAP) not so with ProjectServer 2007.

TFS is very happy with SQL2005.

This is why I have to upgrade  WSS 3.0.

I had the same problem with the default.master error creating the new site.  I realized that what I had done was used my own suffix instead of SAMPLE... I used PM.  I copied the STS folder in 1033 and renamed it PM.  I then copied the STS folder in the SiteTemplates directory and renamed it PM.  I then copied the webtemp.xml file in 1033/xml and renamed it webtemppm.xml.  What I screwed up was in the webtemppm.xml file I left the template name set to SAMPLE in the XML markup.  I received the same error.  I tried the execadmsvcjobs and it didn't help, as the wsp showed no errors.  I went back through everything and noticed that the template name should have been set to PM.  I changed it and then everything worked fine.

I was trying to install Korean too without success.

I followed your advice until step 1 where only three (English, French, Spanish) language option shown as your snapshot. Then I couldn't figure out how to go further to step 2 where many language option shown. Anyhow I finished the procedure without step 2 in your advice. Now now change but only new program called, 'Microsoft Application Recovery'.

Now when I insert Office 2003 CD, there is no option for 'install' (because a new program from 2003 CD already installed as I said) and just for 'repair' option.

What is your advice now?

it works with Finnish. And you can avoid your Step 5 if you go to "Add remove programs" and uninstall Office 2003 as it is not required any more.  Office Proofing Tools are not uninstalled. So you avoid having Office 2003 SP2 and other useless updates in your computer.

So to make it clearer:

After Step 2, go to Add Remove Programs and uninstall what you installed in Step 1. When you arrive to Step 5 you only need small updates for Proofing Tools but not for entire Office 2003 and not 110MB SP2.

Hi there. I, too, am desparately looking for the Microsoft Office 2007 Single Language Pack - German, to no avail so far.

I'm not sure the trick above will work for me as my computer runs on Vista - and I would also have to borrow Office 2003 from someone to install first and then upgrade).

So I guess the official SLP would be the best option, but there is info on the Microsoft Website if it has been released in German or, if not, when this will happen. Very disappointed und most of all frustrated.

Does anyone have any further information?

As I had the Proofing Tools on my Office 2003 and did an update to Office 2007, I accidentaly discovered the abovementioned trick. However, performing OCR in Document Imaging will not work yet. You have to move the *.LNG files from /Program Files/Common Files/Microsoft Shared/MODI/11.0 to .../MODI/12.0.

You need to remove the WinNT:// because there is a known issue or bug with the VSSConverter GUI. For domain names with a hyphen, it adds this before the user names and it  does not work.

I have a problem with reporting services in intergrated mode and maybe some of you can help me...

I have  SQL2005 and MOSS2007. Everything works fine except reports with parameters in the report viewer webpart... The same report works in 'full screen' on my WSS site. All the reports without parameters works in the webpart. The only error message that I receive is the great "Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

If someone had this problem, thenaks in advance

I am facing problem while setting connection string in Report Service project.

Problem is when I specify DNS name instead of machine name as the Server in the connection string.

When I specify DNS name in the connection string it gives error that "A connection cannot be made.Ensure that the server is running" on click of "Test Connection"

Also I am not able to view reports directly through IE. I.e. http://<DNS_NAME>/Reports.

When I access Reports, it prompts me to enter username/password. Even after specifying valid username, it shows me the prompt again n again.

Is there some known issue with Reporting Service or with IIS setting not able to connect to a DNS name? I did not face with any issue when I specified DNS name in the connection string of Analysis Service project.

I tried the settings mentioned in this blog but I was not able to connect to Reporting Service through Management studio. and when accessed through IE, it shows me the prompt.

I also verified that:

1: Ping with both machine name and DNS name returns same result.

2: nslookup with both machine name and DNS name resolves to same IP.

Awaiting some positive reply.

Note: I am working with SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition.

Our company is using SQL 2005 Reporting Services (SSRS) to display a dashboard with some useful statisctics and fancy graphs on the company intranet. The problem is that the ReportViewer takes too long to bring up results on the MOSS-based site. The SQL works efficiently from Query Analyzer (takes around 1 sec) but the same query takes almost 40 seconds (!!!!) to throw results on the MOSS site.

We have tried to identify the cause of delay without any luck so far. The Server has sufficient memory / other hardware specs so that does not seem to be the bottleneck. I wonder if there are any known performance issues with using SSRS over MOSS? Is there any better alternative?

Any suggestions to help optimize the reports would be highly appreciated.

I have a MOSS 2007 site set up on "localhost" and RS 05 is running in native mode, publishing to localhost:8080/reportserver. I want to be able to view the reports in sharepoint webparts on the site.  I have seen several posts saying this is possible but none step through how to do it.  (i do not want to use integration mode)

I am using the ReportViewer webpart and typing in the address of the reports to point at -

http://localhost:8080/Reports/Pages/Folder.aspx?ItemPath=%2fexample&ViewMode=List

but this gives the error:

The path of the item '/localhost:8080/Reports/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=%2fexample%2fReport1' is not valid. The full path must be less than 260 characters long; other restrictions apply. If the report server is in native mode, the path must start with slash. (rsInvalidItemPath)

No matter how i change the path name i cant find the format to put it in that will make it work.  Any ideas?  if i remove all the characters like ':,%,&' etc then the error changes to "item not found", as this is now obviously the wrong address.

Any help would be much apreciated!

I've been having trouble setting up Forms Authentication with SSO for a couple of days now.  

The issue was that SSO via cookies requires the user to access the site via the FQDN even internally because the cookie is attached to the domain name, but the site was set up just for internal access.

I should have guessed it was Alternate Access Mappings!  The thing that was making it not obvious was that some types of access actually worked via the FQDN whilst I received "404 File Not Found" errors other times.

Second start the office 2003 proofing installation and select your language (step2)

Third uninstall the basic office 2003 (not the office 2003 proofing tools)

And then at last update your machine.

Same problem here - can't access SSRS through http://<DNS_NAME>/Report - it's asking for credentials. Works fine (well, almost but that's another story) through an IP. I've followed the steps in this document but still no success. Any other suggestions?

I eventually purchased the Hu Language Pack. Installed on my desktop, and then I believe (was some time ago) it wanted to activate.

After that I was unable to install on my laptops or my wife's computer.

I need some help... I could make my ASP 1.1 and 2.0 coexist with SharePoint, but there is a problem with encoding.

All international characters like: ç, á, é, â are replaced by a square. I already tried to add a globalization tag to web.config forcing the application to use utf-8 or ISO-8859-1, but it's not working.

This is what I did..

Install Office 2007 like normal.

Install Office 2007 with ONLY the defualt Proofing tools (everything else should have an X next to it).

Install Proofing tools 2003 like normal.

Uninstall Office 2003 (because it will start to download  updates).

Open i.e. Word 2007, it will start configuring it self. Try the spelling! It all works!

I am currently deploying TFS for the company I work for (Aggreko) and I will be providing TFS for projects that are not IT realted at all :)

We have many project manager, none of whome are in IT and I will be doing a DEMO for them next week on what TFS can offer.

I worked with Paul Slater, and expert in Project Life Cycle, at Merill Lynch, and he was very interested in the capabilities of TFS for non IT related projects...

I think that I will need to try this with my current deployment. Not just because it is new, but because I was talking about it today with John, our Reporting Services guru. He wants to try these capabilities with our Sharepoint 2007 deployment. I am glad to hear that it can be done with TFS as well.

I am still unhappy with the integration with Sharepoint in TFS as all I want to be able to do is create sub-sites (full explanation on my blog) which would require me not only to create a new web services for SHarepoint, but to write and deploy a custom project creation wizard part to replace the default one in TFS.

This is something I may have to do for my current Aggreko TFS deployment. :)

Eh. I'm not sure if I'm doing things right. I had office 2003, but switched to 2007. So, I installed Office 2003 again, exactly as you said, Custom install, de-select everything except proofing tools. However, I don't have a button 'next'. First time I tried it it was called 'Install', second time I tried it it was called 'Update', and it keeps being 'Update'. And if I click that, it just goes installing without ever asking me if I want to install other proofing tools. So I never get that second screen. Any help?

1)Download the solution .EXE file to your computer.

2)Run the .EXE file to unpack the template file

to a location on your computer.

Copy ApplicationTemplateCore.wsp file in to

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\BIN location

3)Click on Start

4)Click on Run

5)Type Cmd

6)Type CD C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\BIN

7)Type(Don't paste, that would not work)following command

STSADM.EXE -o addsolution -filename ApplicationTemplateCore.wsp

I am able to change the Alternate Access Mapping of sharepoint to use the FQDN, but the "My Site" portion will then cease to open.  I get an error message.  If I float my cursor over the My Site link, I can read in the status bar that it is not looking for the FQDN--instead, it is still linking to the short-name.  Any suggestions?

Yep, I noticed as well that the installer doesn't work when I am behind a proxy server. Even a proxy server that doesn't require authentication doesn't work. This has been the case since the beta, so apparently it wasn't fixed by Microsoft.

I recently got office 2007 and sadly it had no italian nor german proofing tool, I tried out your method and at first it didn't work, also after repeating the whole procedure twice, it simply didn't make the checking from step 3. After fidgeting around in Word 2007 a little I found a Microsoft Office Diagnostics (it is in Word Options / Resources), ran that thing and magically the two languages appeared, so I made only Step 1 and 2 plus the diagnosis and it works.

I have created a user control that loads some data on click event of a button. Userr contol works fine when i use the control within an aspx page. But button's click event does not fire when i embed it in a Web part using Page.LoadControl()method. Any idea about what I am doing wrong.

Follow the link above for the modified setup file for MS Office 2003 Proofing Tools.

Replace the file on the original Proofing Tools CD with this one.

This patch skips the version check performed at start-up and you can install your 2003 proofing tools on a Office 2007 with no problems whatsoever.

I don't know what are those crackheads at microsoft up to but the old Proofing Tools are perfectly compatible with office 2007. (exept a minor glitch with romanian characters)

Frak them, I'm not waiting around forever and pray they will release a 2007 Proofing Tools pack.

What more can I say than thanks a million. I needed the three Scandinavian languages and you saved me agony and money. This is one of the most useful tweaks for Office 2007 I have found anywhere. Also thanks Suomi for getting rid of the old files. :-)

The proofing tools for my Dutch language disappears if I uninstall office 2003, even if I copied .lng into ../12.0. How can I prevent this, i want to uninstall Office 2003 because of un-necessary  updates!

When trying to sign int he error message comes up saying that the service is currently unavailable however when i check the service status it says that it is stable and running :S. I also have the error code which is 80070005.

All work well apart from one issue around email subscriptions... All hyperlinks point to Server 1 instead of Server 2 (http://... sharepoint site).

Any suggestions how this can be fixed?

Hi Your post is really very useful. But, one thing i want to discuss with you is that, I have used smartpart for implementing user control but it has the folloiwng problem:

I have one smart(having user control) part which is a producer on PageNo1.

Secondly, I have another smartpart(having user control) on PageNo.2 which is a consumer for smart part on PageNo1.

Now, the problem is that I am finding "Connections" link coming disabled showing tooltip something as "Connection type not compatiable with other parts of the web page."

Now the catch is it works prefectly fine when both producer and consumer are on the same page, but does not work if put on different pages.

My second big concern is that on "Submit" click, I want to move to next page and then show the consumer data fetched from producer on PageNo1.

Please Suggest. It is too critical for my application.

I have this problem with signing into windows live messenger and MSN messenger. The error code is 80070005. I did all i can to solve this problem but nothing was my answer. My problem is the opposite of Stephane-Robert's - I can access SSRS using DNS name. When I use the SQL HostName or IP address, SSRS starts asking for credentials.

Additionally, when I browse the Reporting Server in IE, some of the links point to the IP address of the SQL Server and others point to the DNS name (reports.website.com/reports).

I downloaded the "WLinstaller.exe" and tried to install this Windows Live Messenger 2008. But there was nothing happend beside openning up the "Windows Live Home" webpage.

Check for tp_deleted status of all the <int 1> values found in UseInfo table, both in Content Db and Admin DB. Set as Undeleted all who have tp_deleted = 1.

Recently setup a new TFS2008 installation out in my colocation and had issues with the report and document

I have had nothing but headache trying to upgrade to Windows Live messenger 2008. It installs the new WLInstaller utility then fails on after upgrading Windows Live messenger and will not remove the old version - saying simply it could not remove it. Is anyone else encountering this issue?

I have already tried to remove it before the installation including manually removing the folders left behind for Windows Live and MSN and experience the same issue again. Have any suggestions ?

Only an 'idiot' (or someone who just doesn't know any better) woud allow an application to dynamically download and install stuff.

Better still the programmer that writes such a [commercial] system wants locking up for 'aiding and abetting' the virus/trojan criminals.

Almost ALL Anti-Virus/security software will block this kind of activity. Better still most places will lock web access down to only certain programs.

And how do I install this on 200+ machines for my client????

I don't suppose we will see that in the near future?  I've discovered that adding an assembly is MUCH harder then it sounds.  I think I have issues like Permissions sorted out, but I can't tell. I'm still having trouble getting the compiler to find the assembly!

I look forward to any kind of walk through you can provide.

An unanswered question that I saw else where (and works just as well for me) is if it is possible to reference some code in the current assembly instead of a custom assembly. I foresee some security issues that could potentially crop up, but if done right, security should not be an issue.

Would you mind covering these issues, or could you direct me to a guide/article/entry that has?

I was getting the "Failed to instantiate file "default.master" from module "DefaultMasterPage": Source path "default.master" not found." error. All it was, I had copied the webtemp.xml file and forgot to change the template name. Went back and changed it and it works fine for me. Thanks a heap to Gary.

This installer is an absolute pile of crap it continually fails to install and offers no reason for the failure, no error code etc.  It simply directs you to the same useless help document.

Come on MS just provide regular downloadable installs for each application.

Am presently using WSS 2.o and now looking for MOSS to e hosted and used. What would be the part played by TFS if installed? Would it effect in anyway without the TFS and host only MOSS and start creating. Please kinldy throw some light in this area. Thanks in advance. Regards Uday

I just installed WLM 2008 and all seems to be working fine. I first downloaded and installed my old version, but that did not work, I had to install the new version after installing the old one for some reason. Maybe some of you folks arn't keeping you computer up to date with Microsoft is the reason your having trouble. I keep my automatic updated turned on at all times.

Live Messenger 2008 will quite happily try to sign in, most times for hours on end (little men doing the dance thing?). Sometimes clicking Cancel, then tools > Options > Connection > Trouble shooter > repair will get it to sign in, but not always.

Used "bug report" to no avail...

I need some help with my TSWA installation.

I've installed wss 2.0, then TFS 2005. After that, I upgraded to wss 3.0 and sharepoint portal server 2007.

Now, I've installed TSWA for TFS 2005 to be able to do some Requirements Management right in the TFS, but unfortunately I can't connect to it. I mean, I open the TSWA website, it asks for credentials, I give it to them, but right after that it shows me a web site asking for the TFS url, and credentials again. But, no matter how much times I submit credentials, it's impossible to log on, it keeps on asking credentials, and what's most interesting, it shows some error message which says:

"Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Client.TeamFoundationServer..ctor(System.String, System.Net.ICredentials)"

There's no more interaction, I don't know where this error comes from, neither why it's failing. Can you help on this?

All dynamically loaded controls are unloaded from the page when a postback occurs. They will thus not remain on the page if you press a button or perform a PostBack in any way.

This is quite annoying, since you manually have to reload any dynamically loaded controls to the page after the postback. You must also make sure to reload them at the right time and with the correct ID...otherwise they will not work properly. For instance, events may not fire.

This can become quite a problem for large, complex web applications where dynamically loaded controls are essential to keep down byte size and avoid a lot of unnecessary functionality.

A very simple and handy solution to this issue is described in this blog:

This WLInstaller.exe is the most creepy thing i have encountered so far. If u have a previous msn version, it asks u to install a new version. When u try to download...its asks u to get some critical update. Then a miserable setup file runs and keeps checking for any WLM version..later on a sorry message appearing to slap the poor user. WTF is this Sh*t?

I'm pretty sure you can just create seperate application pools in IIS, one for 1.1 another for 2.0.

We have built a nice little app using the helpdesk template.. The only thing we can't do though is change the resolution type.. Can't add to it, can't modify it... Driving us insane.

I have the same problem. If I use the servername in my accessing the reportserver everything works fine. I do need to keep the server name accessible as it is used in various applications.

However, when I use a newly established DNS (FQDN) name that points to the reportserver I get log on prompts. I tried the method you suggested above but my applications will fail since they keep using the servername instead of the FQDN. Any suggestions?

I remembered this trick from back when I was using subversion and TortoiseSVN for my finishing project at school. We had all our documentation in a Office 2003 file and a did a compare on the document. I was surprised to see that Word opened and showed us the diff.

I started poking around and found a WScript that executed some code to open Office and show the diff.

This is what you do:

1. Go to TortoiseSvn homepage and download it

2. Install TortoiseSvn

3. Open Visual Studio -> Tools -> Options -> Source Control -> Visual Studio Team Foundation Server -> Configure User Tools. (phew a long way)

4. Add a user tool like this:

Extension: docx

Operation: Compare

Command: C:\Windows\System32\wscript.exe

Arguments: "C:\Program Files\TortoiseSVN\Diff-Scripts\diff-docx.js" %1 %2 //E:javascript

(Have a look at the Diff-Scripts folder for powerpoint files, doc and others)

5. Click OK

6. Test it out by compare a docx file.

There you go. Simple, and it works.

I tried creating 2 of these web parts on the same page, each hosting a different UserControl.

Say, UserControl1 has the following properties: Name, Age and Gender, whereas UserControl2 has the following properties: Page, Line, Column.

When i saved the properties of UserControl1 in Webpart1 as "Noel" for Name, "12" for Age and "Male" for Gender, the properties of UserControl2 will share the same properties as well.

Is there any way to fix this?

I am using the content migration API to import and export large video files (50-500 MB).

I am getting following error when one of the larger files around 300 MB are being attached : "Insufficient memory to continue the execution of the program. at Microsoft.SharePoint.Library.SPRequestInternalClass.AddOrUpdateItem"

I have 2GB ram and x86 processor. This problem only occurs on 32 bit processors. Its working fine with x64 architecture.

I am using an external blog storage API to store these large files.

When I unpack the VPC, I do not see a *.VMC file. Don't I need this to add it to Vitual Server? Am I missing something here or is it my newbie status.

I have changed the AAM for default site. Also did the mapping accordingly in IIS advanced setting to apply host header. But when I access the site, it prompt for the loginId and password

This worked for me. Thank you.I do not know what ACT is but I used this code to solve "copying an image to the clipboard" in my vb.net program. It got rid of the "Requested Clipboard operation did not succeed" error.

Is there a place where I can find limitations of using a WSS 3.0 and SSRS 2005 SP2/ SRS 2008 combination?

I have followed these steps but when I try to connect I get:

Cannot connect to localhost/.../msmdpump.dll.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

The only issue I have with this method is that a when a user attempts to get to the site from the workstation when is is remote (via the internet), it has problems logging them in.

Ok with either choice if the select all was detectable. However, with not knowing if select all was chosen, cannot build logic to get around the query performance hit. Without this, it it just annoying. I am now using SSRS 2008 and am faced with reworking all my Stored procs and reports that have and *(all) added in to lists.

I have been trying to debug into an addin that was not created to appear on the Tools menu but rather in its own separate menu with no luck at all.  Can't seem to find anything through google or MSDN.  I'm following the basic steps given in MSDN and was able to debug into an addin that does appear on the Tools menu.

Well my previous post may never appear and this is the answer to it but oh well...

To answer my own question, the bit you highlighted in bold in the addin xml file is pretty critical.

I had to specify the full path to my bin directory where the addin code is compiled to before I could successfully debug into my addin.  This may seem obvious but it's really not.  For example the MSDN article titled Walkthrough: Debugging an Add-in Project  does not mention this pretty necessary point at all.

I am trying to use this new product TFS Data Manger. It looks like it will solve my problem of backing up and recovering an entity.  Has anyone used it for project renaming or other functions?  Can some of you try it as well?

I was stuck with that for a long time. Copying to the same folder worked. i don't understand why giving the absolute path/ adding location of the file to tghe path didn't work.

Also, I actually have a 64 bit Server 2003 install and as per: www.microsoft.com/.../details.aspx

there should be a stsadm.exe in here:

%drive%\program files (x86)\common files\microsoft shared\web server extensions\12\bin

..instead stsadm.exe is found in the location appropriate for the 32 bit install.

I did not create an extra IP, however I created separate virtual directories. I didn't touch the configuration files. I have two instances now.

1. MSSQLSERVER

2. SNT_SE (the one i just installed)

I can go the report manager on SNT_SE, but not the original one.

This works fine but now I'm to the point of creating connections between controls like this and I'm wondering if there are any best practices or pointers.  I'm doing the majority of the work in the inherited class for the user control - data binding, handling control events etc.  The web part is pretty dumb.  It's really just a host for the user control.  I'm assuming I can't simply define Connection Consumer / Connection Provider methods inside of the user control (unless the web part class has some sort of mechanism for searching it's sub controls for connection points).  So what do a do?  Do I expose some methods from my user control that the web part can use to satisfy the connection?  For example, the user control has a grid view that is bound to data that it retrieves internally (the web part class knows nothing about it).  But now I want to expose that data for a connection.

One question regarding single word name resolution to Host header name

example: if a user types in "link" --> can this be resolved to a host header name like http://link.companyportal.com

No offense but telling someone to shutdown SQL and delete a transaction log is just about one of the worst things you can do. Don't delete the transaction log to save space...ever.

Take a look at option 7 from that survey and find out why you shouldn't do that. I apologize if I come off as snarky but just want to make you aware of why something as simple as deleting a t-log can cause you a world of hurt.

What terrible advice. You should *NEVER* manage the log by deleting it or dumping the contents using TRUNCATE_ONLY or NO_LOG - you don't even explain the implications of doing this. These commands are so dangerous my team removed them from SQL Server 2008.

Never, ever, ever delete the log file.  This is not an answer.  Also, using backup log with truncate_only can seriously jeopardize your backup/recovery methodology.  Never mind that it is deprecated and no longer works in SQL Server 2008.  Please see this recent blog post and read all the links that follow; I hope you will post a correction to this blog post so that more people are not lulled into the feeling that this "solution" makes sense.

The first option is terrible, terrible advice.

There's no guarantee that the log will be recreated. In fact, if the shutdown of the database isn't clean (which will happen if the log is full) the log cannot be recreated and the DB will not be attached.

This UserControl WebPart is awesome!  This is the only way I have found to successfully use and ASCX user control as a webpart.  Is Microsoft ever going to give us a component to do this?

When you select an ASCX and it shows the message "Cannot save the property settings for this Web Part. One or more errors have occurred. See below for details."  I don't see any thing with errors below that.  Where do I look?  The web part shows correctly to the left, but for some reason won't let me save.  My other ASCX controls work fine.  Thanks for your help.

Interesting article, just so I'm on the right page, all this allows a SharePoint developer to write a UserControl?  This in turn allows the developer access to a designer view of his/her control that he/she wants to upload the server?

2 questions I have:

1) Where do you create the '/UserControls' folder referenced earlier?  Is it located somewhere in the 12 hive like 'C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\TEMPLATE'?

I've been working at this for a while now and can't seem to make progress, when I can add literal controls in createchildcontrols and the methods fire in the correct order (applychanges, createchildcontrols) but as soon as I add a control like a text box the methods fire in the reverse (createchildcontrols, applychanges).

Can we Place parameters panel on the top rather than right of the window?

I wanted to add in a comment on 64-bit vs. 32-bit.  I am running Vista Business on a 64-bit machine.  I kept getting "405.0 - Method not allowed" errors when trying the http URL to the msmdpump.dll.  The error seemed as though it was not accepting the POST method, but in fact the issue was that my OLAP application pool should not be enabled for 32-bit applications.  If you go to the advanced settings on the OLAP application pool, the 2nd setting from the very top is, "Enable 32-Bit Applications" and it must be set to "False" since I am running on a 64-bit machine.
