I installed Beta2TR above Beta2.

After installing Office 2003 Proofing Tools, I launched Word 2007. Office Configuration window was shown and it began updating config. There error appeared. There's a screenshot:

Now I even uninstalled all the Office 2003 components, but it still wants to configure itself and the error is caused! So I have to download Office and setup Beta2 and TR again... What's the MUI version? The default language of my Office 2007 is English, of Windows XP is Russian.

On this url there is an modified PTK.MSI, altering with original in proofing tool's CD you can by-pass the version check of installer.

In case that no succees due to failure to locate the language files, just acomplish the procedure and repeat with the original PTK.MSI..

We can't forget to emphasize that the SQL Server 2005 has to be set up to using both TCP/IP and named pipes for local and remote connections. Otherwise, the step 6 won’t work at all.

First, if you've got a task and must perform the task in 16 hours, how do you explain 6 interuptions of 30 minutes each, resulting in 3 hours extension to the task? Are you going to report you've worked 19 hours on it?

Probably not. You're still writing 16 hours, it's just your personal problem that you've got 3 hours less to work on the task. Or you just juggle a bit with the hours and write an extra hour or 2 on meetings or anything.

So, with WSS 2.0 I can get FQDN working by just setting the host header, but I can't get FQDN working with SSL (it always defaults to NetBIOS name).  Any thoughts on how to do both?

Oh, and the fix for WSS 3.0 worked swimmingly!

I installed sqlserver 2005 and one instance of reporting services. it is working fine.

so i went ahead and installed a second instance of reporting services on the same machine.

The following steps were taken in order to add the second instance of reporting services.

1- Installed the second instance of reporting services with option to not configure Reporting Services checked. (successful )

2- Created extra IP address on the server (successful)

3- Used IIS to create an additional website and selected the IP address (successful), added hostname header.

4- Configured the Reporting Services using Reporting Services Configuration (created virtual directory for report manager and report server).

5-    Modified the RSReportServer.config file.  

            old value:   <UrlRoot>http://<servername>/reportserver</UrlRoot>

            new value: <UrlRoot>http://<IPaddress>/reportserver</UrlRoot>

6-     Modified the RSWebApplication.config file

            old value: <ReportServerUrl></ReportServerUrl>

            <ReportServerVirtualDirectory>ReportServer</ReportServerVirtualDirectory>

new value:             <ReportServerUrl>http://<IPaddress>/reportserver</ReportServerUrl>

I followed you instructions carefully and had pretty good success with the install. I only ran into 2 issues.

1. I couldn't create a new project with my domain account because i didn't have the permissions in

SharePoint. The account I used to install team server works fine and has no problems creating a new team project.

2. When I viewed the project in team explorer from my local machine logged in under my domain account, I get a red x on only the documents folder.

It turned out that tfs didn't add me to the admin role on the root team portal site

http://{myserver}/default.aspx site.

I will be running a test tomorrow to see if this occured because my domain account was already setup before the WSS 3.0 upgrade. My premis is that if I add a new user to the licensed user & tfs administrator roles that it will automaticly setup the sharePoint role as well, but if it doesn't this may be a warning that you might want to post, about having to manually configure security in multiple places.

the second problem, with the documents folder, turned out to be a problem with permissions on the child sharePoint site for that project.

Just figured if it happened to me it's bound to happen to someone else. Hope this information is of use to you.

After reading your instructions proofing is working perfectly in Brazilian Portuguese.

I've used the Office 2003 Portuguese CD to install just the proof and language. Started Word and it installed the Thesaurus as if it was Office 2007 native.

Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.

Locate the following registry subkey:

Note You may also find another subkey that resembles the following subkey:

If you find additional subkeys that reference Microsoft 12.0 registration, open each subkey, and then identify the product by the ProductName entry.

For example: ProductName=Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007

When you find the subkey for the product from which you want to remove the existing product license key, delete the following entries:

once you have done this procedure you must when it asks to put in your new product key click the x button on the top this will enable you to  use microsoft office without the product key. cool but dont get any office updates! you can forever use this but dont enter your product key because it will make your register

Can anyone help me changing the language on Microsoft Office 2007?  My friend, who is German, lent me his computer.  I followed the instructions from Microsoft, which is to go to Start, then Programs, then Microsoft Office 2007, then language settings.  I enter English for the U.S. as my default and then hit "ok."  According to Microsoft, I am supposed to receive a confirmation message and the language should change.  I do not receive the message, the language does not change and when I return to the change language message, it is exactly as it was before I started the process.  Any suggestions?  (And, yes, I did restart the computer.)  Thanks and Danke!

First, thanks for your excellent posts on getting WSS 3 to work with TFS.  I'm in the misdt of rebuiding my app tier (very weird kerberos issues before), but when I'm done, I'm considering following your steps.

I wanted to know what you think though about copying the TFS virtual directories/apps to the sharepoint site (and adding the appropriate path exclusions) as to allow all day-to-day activities to be on a single port.

The reason is that it's easier to allow a single SSL port open than two and credentials will be reused since it's the same site...the user will only need to enter credentials once.

I have to say that the worst part of getting the app tier before setup was sharepoint.  I wanted to use a regular DNS name for all TFS access to allow seamless external access, and it was very painful to get set up.  The main issues I think were that Sharepoint recognized the default site as http://computer/ instead of the desired access point of https://tfs.blah.com.  When the PCW went to create subsites, it failed since it couldn't find an instance of the tfs.blah.com site on sharepoint.  I eventually solved it by unextending the site, adding a host-header so that the admin service would see the name and reextending.

Maybe another good blog topic would be to detail all of the steps necessary to set the name of a TFS server to be a dns hostname and having it locked down using only SSL.  There are a number of places settings need to be changes, rangning from various config files, the tfsadminutil, the registry and sharepoint.  In the end, it's painful but worth it.  Now it's just a port issue as ISA Server doesn't make it possible to have mutliple SSL ports on a single listener.  With an ISA Web listener, a user can authenticate against it and Kerberos Constrained Delegation can auth the user to the TFS.  Another thing that's nifty is that ISA can use Forms-Based auth with Basic fallback for non-browser clients (over SSL obviously).  That way, an external user can have a friendly login for sharepoint but still use the web services easily.

I have 11.0 version. This procedure doesn't work. I went step by step, if you click "x" when you are done. The program disappears. When you open it up again the registration box reappears. It disappears every time you click "x" or "cancel".

I can get as far as 12.0. Do all machines have a registration folder?

Im using TFS and eed to upgrade Sharepoint Services so that it is compatible with MS ProjectServer 2007 (2003 not supported now). The whole point of this is the pipelining of work items and timesheet items back into the project plan.

I had the same problem with the default.master error creating the new site.  I realized that what I had done was used my own suffix instead of SAMPLE... I used PM.  I copied the STS folder in 1033 and renamed it PM.  I then copied the STS folder in the SiteTemplates directory and renamed it PM.  I then copied the webtemp.xml file in 1033/xml and renamed it webtemppm.xml.  What I screwed up was in the webtemppm.xml file I left the template name set to SAMPLE in the XML markup.  I received the same error.  I tried the execadmsvcjobs and it didn't help, as the wsp showed no errors.  I went back through everything and noticed that the template name should have been set to PM.  I changed it and then everything worked fine.

I was trying to install Korean too without success.

I followed your advice until step 1 where only three (English, French, Spanish) language option shown as your snapshot. Then I couldn't figure out how to go further to step 2 where many language option shown. Anyhow I finished the procedure without step 2 in your advice. Now now change but only new program called, 'Microsoft Application Recovery'.

Now when I insert Office 2003 CD, there is no option for 'install' (because a new program from 2003 CD already installed as I said) and just for 'repair' option.

What is your advice now?

it works with Finnish. And you can avoid your Step 5 if you go to "Add remove programs" and uninstall Office 2003 as it is not required any more.  Office Proofing Tools are not uninstalled. So you avoid having Office 2003 SP2 and other useless updates in your computer.

So to make it clearer:

After Step 2, go to Add Remove Programs and uninstall what you installed in Step 1. When you arrive to Step 5 you only need small updates for Proofing Tools but not for entire Office 2003 and not 110MB SP2.

It doesn't work all the same. I've done all u said. The Activation Panel reappears every time after I have done all as u had said. If I click "X" then it is impossibe to work in (locked). How do I solve this problem?

I'm not sure the trick above will work for me as my computer runs on Vista - and I would also have to borrow Office 2003 from someone to install first and then upgrade).

So I guess the official SLP would be the best option, but there is info on the Microsoft Website if it has been released in German or, if not, when this will happen. Very disappointed und most of all frustrated.

As I had the Proofing Tools on my Office 2003 and did an update to Office 2007, I accidentaly discovered the abovementioned trick. However, performing OCR in Document Imaging will not work yet. You have to move the *.LNG files from /Program Files/Common Files/Microsoft Shared/MODI/11.0 to .../MODI/12.0.

You need to remove the WinNT:// because there is a known issue or bug with the VSSConverter GUI. For domain names with a hyphen, it adds this before the user names and it  does not work.

P.S. I have the trial version on my laptop. I just never turn it off and leave Word open all the time. That way you don't have to open it over again and it won't ever ask for a product key. (This works for people who really only use Word or just one of the Microsoft Office programs because it could get annoying if you have a bunch of things open. I was thankful to find this explanation of how to change the Product Key. I had been using a Beta B2T copy of Office 2007 and when the Beta ran out without me being prepared I was able to use the above mentioned way to reinstall Office 2007 on a 60 day trial period by just downloading and installing the trial version over my existing Beta and using your method to change my key.

For some reason when I tried to uninstall the Beta and just install the trial it would not work.

The purpose of deleting the ProductID and DigitalProductID entries isn't to give you the full version of the product, but to give you access to whatever trial version you have (If your trial doesnt already have access to all the features you want, I would download a full trial which gives full product access for a limited time). What you need to do is first download the full trial version then follow the instructions at the top. When you run the program it should still ask you for the product key, but just close the activation window and you should be able to use the program for as long as you want. Now, if you just have a full version of the software and you're needing a product code to activate it, you may be out of luck, because the software won't accept product keys that have not been activated by microsoft.

I have a problem with reporting services in intergrated mode and maybe some of you can help me...

I have  SQL2005 and MOSS2007. Everything works fine except reports with parameters in the report viewer webpart... The same report works in 'full screen' on my WSS site. All the reports without parameters works in the webpart. The only error message that I receive is the great "Object reference not set to an instance of an object."

Why the hell I see so many request pouring in for product key/ validation key......once installed just delete the product id/ digital id (as mentioned thousand times on this page) and you should be good to go!

I have got Office 2007 Professional / Visio 2007 working fine for me on WinXP. Once deleted these two keys....it simply WORKS!

I had a pre-installed Office Student and Home edition trial on my new Vista laptop.  I activated the 60 day version already and the instructions above about deleting the id's works as far as I can tell.  Come May 31, I will know for sure!  It is a bit annoying to always have to close the pop-up key window everytime but I'm not complaining.  I am wondering how one specifically opts out of the office updates?  Do I need to deselect a box somewhere- I don't want it updating and undoing my current license!

I am facing problem while setting connection string in Report Service project.

Problem is when I specify DNS name instead of machine name as the Server in the connection string.

When I specify DNS name in the connection string it gives error that "A connection cannot be made.Ensure that the server is running" on click of "Test Connection"

Also I am not able to view reports directly through IE. I.e. http://<DNS_NAME>/Reports.

When I access Reports, it prompts me to enter username/password. Even after specifying valid username, it shows me the prompt again n again.

Is there some known issue with Reporting Service or with IIS setting not able to connect to a DNS name? I did not face with any issue when I specified DNS name in the connection string of Analysis Service project.

I tried the settings mentioned in this blog but I was not able to connect to Reporting Service through Management studio. and when accessed through IE, it shows me the prompt.

I also verified that:

1: Ping with both machine name and DNS name returns same result.

2: nslookup with both machine name and DNS name resolves to same IP.

Awaiting some positive reply.

Note: I am working with SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition.

Thanks so much for addressing such a simple, yet complex, issue.  I had a problem with a key provided on technet, and couldn't for the life of me find the place to delete the darn thing in the registry so it would re-ask me.  I have a legitamate key (And before 4000 hack goons ask, no you can't have it) and just needed to enter the right one.

I bought Office 2007 Professional so I have a legit cd and key.  I read that all versions of Office 2007 are on each cd.  The key code tells it which version to install.  Does anyone have a key that would install the Ultimate version instead of the Professional version?

well....i'm gonna tell you all something...noone is gonna give us a key free...BUT....you can use the program you download freely without having a key...first when you install the program...click on next, do not put any product key...once installed the program, everytime you run it, you'll be asked the key. then you just close the window... important...if you clic on NEXT once in the program you'll get this anoying box telling you the limited times you can open it....you dun need to leave your pc on for days with the stupid program running!!!

Our company is using SQL 2005 Reporting Services (SSRS) to display a dashboard with some useful statisctics and fancy graphs on the company intranet. The problem is that the ReportViewer takes too long to bring up results on the MOSS-based site. The SQL works efficiently from Query Analyzer (takes around 1 sec) but the same query takes almost 40 seconds (!!!!) to throw results on the MOSS site.

We have tried to identify the cause of delay without any luck so far. The Server has sufficient memory / other hardware specs so that does not seem to be the bottleneck. I wonder if there are any known performance issues with using SSRS over MOSS? Is there any better alternative?

Any suggestions to help optimize the reports would be highly appreciated.

I've followed the above instructions and at the beginning i had installed the trial version and then I uninstalled the office and reinstalled again.When the installation setup prompted to enter the trial serial,i skipped this progress.Finally, I got to use office standard 2007 in trial version which is all functioning. But I still need to enter the product key which is required to unlock the full version of office standard 2007.

Do this it Works with ur 60 days trial MS ofice 2007

First of all make sure that u install Office 2007 without any Serial Number... If u have already installed it with a serial number then follow these instructions.....

1. Close all Microsoft Office applications.

2. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.

3. Locate the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Registration

Note You may also find another subkey that resembles the following subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Registration\{91120000-0011-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}

4. If you find additional subkeys that reference Microsoft 12.0 registration, open each subkey, and then identify the product by the ProductName entry.

For example: ProductName=Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007

5. When you find the subkey for the product from which you want to remove the existing product license key, delete the following entries:

* DigitalProductID

* ProductID

6. Exit Registry Editor.

After u are finished with this...

1. Go to start and Click Run...

2. In the run box type... "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE12\Office Setup Controller\Proof.en"

3. You should now see a file named Proof.XML

4. Right click the file and select open with notepad.

5. After opening the file with notepad scroll down to the the bottom.

6. You should see lines like this...

8. Just change the line AlwaysInstalled with neverInstalled retaining the quotes...

9. Save the file and u are ready to go...

10. Now just open Word and it should not ask you for any activation...

11. Make sure you do not do any kind of update...

I have a MOSS 2007 site set up on "localhost" and RS 05 is running in native mode, publishing to localhost:8080/reportserver. I want to be able to view the reports in sharepoint webparts on the site.  I have seen several posts saying this is possible but none step through how to do it.  (i do not want to use integration mode)

I am using the ReportViewer webpart and typing in the address of the reports to point at -

http://localhost:8080/Reports/Pages/Folder.aspx?ItemPath=%2fexample&ViewMode=List

but this gives the error:

The path of the item '/localhost:8080/Reports/Pages/Report.aspx?ItemPath=%2fexample%2fReport1' is not valid. The full path must be less than 260 characters long; other restrictions apply. If the report server is in native mode, the path must start with slash. (rsInvalidItemPath)

No matter how i change the path name i cant find the format to put it in that will make it work.  Any ideas?  if i remove all the characters like ':,%,&' etc then the error changes to "item not found", as this is now obviously the wrong address.

Any help would be much apreciated!

I found a very simplier way to do it

Just click to the OFFICE BUTTON (where the logo of OFFICE PACK is), then choose OPTIONS WORD (that's what i have with french version, it may be different in english one), then choose "RESSOURCES", you'll see many options, choose "ACTIVATE MICROSOFT OFFICE" then. a box appears to demand you to give serial number. I've been having trouble setting up Forms Authentication with SSO for a couple of days now.  

The issue was that SSO via cookies requires the user to access the site via the FQDN even internally because the cookie is attached to the domain name, but the site was set up just for internal access.

I should have guessed it was Alternate Access Mappings!  The thing that was making it not obvious was that some types of access actually worked via the FQDN whilst I received "404 File Not Found" errors other times.

Everyone, Listen to me dont go asking around for the product key or activation key or anything. If you have office 2007, just do what they are telling you to do which is really easy and you will have your office 2007 forever. No more product key is required. I mean it will still ask you to enter the Product key every time you will open office, but just cancel it (ignore it) by pressing the X(close) button and you will be able to use the office 2007.

ALL YOU GUYS HAVE TO DO IS FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTION AND DONT BE AFRAID. IT WILL WORK!

Second start the office 2003 proofing installation and select your language (step2)

Third uninstall the basic office 2003 (not the office 2003 proofing tools)

I have just used V9MTG-3GX8P-D3Y4R-68BQ8-4Q8VD, then a ID code came up. Select confirmation by telephone (uk) and you are given an 0800 number to ring. I entered the 9 x 6 digit numbers but they we not recognised and I was immediatly put through to an "agent". You must say that your programme copy was pre-installed on your computer and NOT one you have just purchased. After giving the 1st six digits you are given a computer generated activation code.

Easy as that and NO need to mess around with the registry. GOOD LUCK

They will only ask for the first 6 digits (in your case 005935)and then give you a valadation code which you have to enter whilst on the phone (yeah, i made the mistake..it's not like she could see me !!!Duh never mind) DONT FORGET TO TELL THEM THAT THE PROGRAMME WAS PRE-INSTALLED ON YOUR PC. I downloaded a trail version from MS. They gav me a trail code to type in. I did that....

I did, what the main topic on this site told me to do, like open the regiedit, and delete the prduct ID, and the digital ID.

So far its ok. Then when i start world pro 2007 or any other office program 07, it says, i cant activate it, i acn only convert it. So, i entered the traial  code that MS gae me, and at another time i enterd a product key that i found on the net (dailykes.com).

It works, fine, it installs the product nicely, until i close word and open it again, it asks me to the same thing..

The only solution for me is to reboot my whole windows, and start it all ovr again. Unless there is an easier solution.

Installed SP1 and SP2 therefore on Office 2003 Enterprise Edition.

When I try then to install the proofreading tools for German i get:

if u enter a code and it is correct off of this site it will probally say that this key has been used to many times and then activate it on the phone it is easy if the robot in the start of the call says it is not right then u go to a real person they ask for the code u give it to them and then u get the code and it is activated is is as simple as that and it will work every time just call and office will be activated
