| In the marketing of service oriented architecture better business alignment tends to be mentioned as a key benefit. But how are we to align IT with business if we don’t understand the structure of business in the first place? A symptom of this problem are raging discussions about the ‘correct’ granularity of services. Or the poor guidance on, for example, business (process) modelling in popular software development methodologies. In this Chalk-&-Talk we will discuss a new approach to business analysis. Based on human communication patterns, it provides clear guidelines on how to discover the elementary building blocks (business transactions) from which business processes are woven. We will also discuss how the outcome of such an analysis provides an excellent starting point for the design of services that will provide automated support for the identified business transactions. |
