Enabeling ASP.NET in the Web server extensions.. Go figure..

While setting up a Virtual PC based BuildServer i installed a clean Win2003 machine, did all the updates installed the IIS from the "Add/Remove wizard", included the SMTP feature and checked the ASP.NET checkbox.

Then, after downloading and installing CruiseControl, the website would not show up!. After two freaking days i find out that i overlooked that i had to enable ASp.NET is the web server extension part of the IIS MMC. Man, that was hard to find!

So, if you're webserver will not show you the default.aspx site and it will show you the "Page could not be found!" error while you know it's there and you have the rights. Look in the webserver extension node iin IIS!

Now, let me get on with my daily build server :-)

Enableing ASP.NET webserver extensions is not secure. It surprises me that you didn't get that...;-)

Rene, thanks for your comment. The thing that got me puzzled, was that i Checked asp.net in the add/remove wizard and then i still had to enable .NET also in the web server extensions. I simply wasn't looking in all the right places...

Hey, didn't Larry do something like that too (a long time ago)???

Mike also pointed out to me, that I was dumber than Mark Miller... (My interpretation BTW)
