  • Solved a WinFX Runtime Components CTP problem

Ever since the November 2005 CTP of WinFX I have had trouble running any Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) sample application on my machine. Every WPF program would crash on startup with weird BAML related exceptions. Even freshly created WPF programs in Visual Studio 2005 with a single empty form...

  • Windows Presentation Foundation white paper on MSDN

Through this blog post I just noticed that a new white paper on Windows Presentation Foundation ("Avalon") is up on the Vista Developer Center on MSDN. The paper provides a very good overview of all the different features and aspects of WPF. It focuses more on the whys than the hows. Like why...

  • All PDC05 sessions available for viewing

You gotta love Microsoft for this one. All PDC05 sessions, panel discussions and symposia can be viewed online for free for the coming six months. Better still, you can download the PowerPoint slides and the entire presentations for offline viewing. This is a screenshot of one of the PDC05 sessions in...

  • C# 3.0 and LINQ Tech Preview

Today I found the time to get my hands dirty on C# 3.0 and LINQ . At PDC05 I went to a couple of sessions on these topics and I read the excellent whitepaper on the LINQ project by Hejlsberg and Box . But I was too busy attending other sessions to try out the hands-on-labs. The hands-on-labs are available...

  • Microsoft Max

Finally found the time to give Microsoft Max a spin. Dennis blogged about this WinFX application on the day of its release. That day I saw it demoed at the PDC05 but couldn't try it out myself. I had to first uninstall Beta 1 of WinFX, its SDK and the Visual Studio 2005 integration from my computer....

  • Censorship on PDCBloggers.NET?

Today I checked the referrer logs for my blog entries about the PDC. I noticed that two of my PDC posts were not syndicated on PDC Bloggers.NET . Although evidently about the PDC, they were apparently ignored by the editors of PDC Bloggers.NET. Of course I can can only speculate about the cause of this...

  • PDC05 is over

This year's PDC is now officially over. I changed the flair on my blog . The hallways in the Convention Center are slowly starting to drain. If this post suddenly ends, you know I have been kicked out of the building. I'll be in the States for another two weeks on holiday, so my blog will probably go...

  • IIS 7.0 and "integrated innovation"

As you may have noticed I have been pretty quiet on the blogging front during this PDC. There are a couple of reasons for this: There are so many interesting sessions here, including lunch sessions, that it is very hard to find the time to blog if you can't or won't blog during sessions. The program...

  • Shock and awe at the PDC05?

Robert Scoble raises the expectations of the PDC05 so high that I really wonder if Microsoft can live up to those expectations. He uses the words shock and awe . Luckily I have already gotten my shot of awe yesterday . Beta 1 of Windows Vista certainly didn't come near such an experience. Sure the glass...

  • Come and play WinFX Hearts!

Come and play WinFX Hearts ! I am waiting for three more players to be able to start a game ;) WinFX Hearts is the old Internet Hearts application with a new look. Adam Nathan upgraded the application to use "Avalon" and other .NET related technologies. But is also uses a lot of the old C+...

  • PDC 2005 before, during and after flair

On my blog you can see a so-called PDC 2005 flair image . I have used my poor Photoshop skills to create two additional PDC 2005 flair images. It would be pretty lame if I would leave the "I'll be there" flair on during and after the PDC. Photoshop's healing brush is great, but unfortunately...

  • Language Integrated Quirks

The bits are baked for the preview of Language Integrated Query, according to Matt Warren . I almost feel guilty for taking a vacation (with hardly any Internet connectivity) immediately after the PDC. Installing the bits will have to wait until I return to the Netherlands.

  • First Look on WinFS Beta 1

Tonight I was planning on fine-tuning my presentation on blogging for the second session of a course on presentation techniques . But WinFS interfered . I couldn't resist giving it a spin. Here's my first look on Beta 1 of WinFS. In this post I will focus on some parts of the infrastructure. I don't...

  • WinFS Beta 1 hits the streets

Quite unexpectedly Beta 1 of WinFS has been released (not launched , but really released ;) on the MSDN Subscriber Downloads site . According this blog post by Tom Rizzo , Microsoft has released Beta 1 this early to give people time to evaluate WinFS before the PDC. I am very curious how WinFS has progressed...

  • Visual Basic 9.0 (2)

Time for another Visual Basic 9.0 posting. Paul Vick is giving us another teaser in a very short post titled What if everything could be queried with SQL? . Paul doesn't mention VB 9.0 in this post, but I'm pretty that's what he is talking about (and the Integrated Query Framework of course). Also related...
