Scrum guide 2011
In July a new update was provided to the Scrum Guide by Jeff Sutherland and Ken Schwaber. There are a few adjustments that are really nice, for example project grooming was added.
One quote from the guide
The Scrum framework consists of Scrum Teams and their associated roles, events, artifacts, and rules. Each component within the framework serves a specific purpose and is essential to Scrum’s success and usage.
Text was added to emphasize that Scrum is an all or nothing proposition. You either do all the practices, or you’re not doing Scrum. I have to agree on it, after visiting a Scrum training by Jeff Sutherland. Before the training it was my believe that the Scrum framework was build with knowledge from the past and a lot of trial and error. Instead it was build and introduced at OOPSLA’95 through a lot of studies, whitepapers and other resources. During the two day course, Jeff Sutherland took little over half a day to emphasize on this. Also by providing lots of examples on how Scrum succeeded and how we should implement and use Scrum.
I’m a believer and want and will to advocate Scrum wherever I come and to whomever may ask. ;-)
